Themeforest X WordPress Theme Review: Sit back, relax and read this in-depth Review. To start with, I would like to inform you that I changed my Theme from Genesis Magazine Pro to X-theme on June 18th, 2015; this means that this blog is presently on the X theme template ( The Ethos Stack).
Update: I reversed back to the Genesis Modern Portfolio Template on September 17th, 2105( basically because of the homepage that offers much more of a service oriented website features for me)
The reason is simple, it has amazing features that I can’t just ignore, secondly, it offers incredible SEO advantages, its has a multipurpose use and it helped increased my loading times; and lastly, I’m noticing an unusual increase in organic traffic.
This review explains in full details everything you need to know about this theme and more than 12 reasons why you should give it a try!!
The argument is endless!! which WordPress theme is the best, loads fast, SEO optimized and can serve as a multipurpose WordPress Theme? From my years of SEO services/Consulting and from personal experience running and maintaining my own money making blogs/website; I always recommend Genesis Themes because they are awesome, perfect, properly optimized and somehow are Google friendly.
However, after coming across this theme and consequently installing and using it, I am in the best position to tell you the honest truth about it. Let us proceed!!.
Table of Contents
Amazing Features – A must read!!
- 1# Its Multipurpose, with Child Themes
I don’t know of any other themes that are both multipurpose in services and at the same time has child themes. Only Genesis themes, from Studiopress, has it, however, their themes are not multipurpose in nature ( except the Modern Portfolio template I’m currently using on this blog)
X themes are multipurpose, and this means that with a single theme, you can turn the template into a business, photography, magazine templates; in essence, the X themes is a parent theme having so many child themes you can easily import and use.
For example, for you to enjoy and use Genesis themes, you need to buy and install the main Framework; after this, you also buy and install the child themes because, without the parent framework, your child theme will never work.
However, with the X theme, you can:
- Immediately use the main parent theme ( which is the X theme itself) without disturbing yourself on the use of any child themes
- However, for the sake of customization, it is important you also download the child themes ( and its free from your dashboard after the purchase); this is because if you do any customization on the X theme, the customization will be lost after an update but if you just want to use the X themes with or without the child themes with the exact default settings ( exactly like the demo), then you are good to go.
- 2# Presence of Stacks
Stacks is just a technical name, the simple meaning of this term in relation to the issue at hand is something we can call child themes or inbuilt design format.
The X theme WordPress theme is technically built with stacks and they are the foundational design of what you desire. For example, I am using one of the stacks, which is purely for a magazine-centric design and the name of the stack is called Ethos.
At present, there are four stacks you can choose from and each of these stacks has about 10 demos ( customized for your preferences). The four stacks are:
- Integrity: It is excellent and well suited for portfolios, corporate and business websites e.t.c. The team has built 10 different demo samples you can choose from.
- Renew : Renew is not a blog-centric design but rather a flat web design meant for a business website with the presence of a blog layout. It is essentially a flat design and its light coded. It also has 10 different demo samples for your use.
- Icon: Icon is the most minimal design. It is obviously designed with an emphasis on clean, white focused background and highly recommended for a simple blogging experience. Also ideal for small business owners in need of a simple website design.
- Ethos: This is my favorite and its what I’m using on this blog you are right now. It is basically for a magazine, entertainment and blog styled design concept.
After the purchase, you download the ‘Only WordPress Themes File’, upload the ZIP file through your theme settings on the dashboard ( just like the image above) and activate the theme. After you activate, install all required and recommended plugins ( especially the Cornerstone), then move over to appearance and you click on ‘customize’; from here, you will see something like the image to your left. Chose the stacks you desire and then customize it.
Please note that this step is good/recommended if you have a blog or website that is already running with content.
But if your blog is new ( brand new), all you have to do first is to import the demo you desire ( after installing required plugins- the cornerstone plugin especially). To import the demo, click on the ‘X Addons’, and click on ‘demo content’; Look for the design you want ( by clicking on the ‘online demo’) first to be sure of the exact demo stack you want); once you are satisfied, click on ‘set up demo content’ and you are good to go!!
- 3# X theme Extensions -Inbuilt Custom Plugins And Endless Shortcodes
I understand the importance of having plugins; they are needed to add features/effects and lots of customizations to your WordPress websites and blogs. However, excess plugins destroy your natural organic rankings because it adds loads of weights to the database and secondly, Google made it clear that most plugins disturb/has conflicts with their crawlers ( check out recommendations as stated in their Google Page Speed Insights).
Advantages: This development will make your website/blog to load extra fast and help increase your organic SERP.
X themes have their own inbuilt plugins, specially made for the proper functioning of the themes; for example, before installing this theme, this present blog was using 12 plugins. However, after the installation, I had to reduce my essential plugins to just 5 (five) and I noticed incredible loading times and increased speed.
Secondly, the X theme WordPress template has tons of shortcodes; on a personal/professional note, I advise that you use shortcodes instead of plugins. With the shortcodes, you can replace virtually all the plugins on your site.
For example, the cornerstone plugin ( earlier mentioned) appears on the body of any post or pages and from here, you can insert anything you can ever imagine anywhere on your posts and pages e.g Google maps, Author, Social sharing icons e.t.c.
From a business/marketing perspective, the cornerstone shortcode I love the most is the ‘Marketing’ code. Under this, you can easily insert buttons, pricing table, call out buttons, promo buttons, prompt buttons e.t.c.
This Act will help increase your CTR and give you better conversions!!
- 4# Loads Fast, Not Bloated, neatly Coded
One major downside to most Multipurpose themes is that they are bloated and this means they are heavy, causing the loading times to increase and this is not good for both user experience and Google bots.
X themes are exceptional; I noticed that my blog is loading extremely fast, I even used Pingdom and Google page speed insight to check it and I discovered that the loading times has reduced significantly.
- 5# Creative / Endless Customization
The guys at Themeco made X theme with a view to making the end user become a creative designer on their own without coding skill. What I’m trying to say is that you can customize little details e.g. font size, color, background, width e.t.c. of the entire website all from a single dashboard.
Most themes lack this essential features and they encourage people to make use of plugins, but X themes stand out different. Once installed, just look under appearance and click on customize. The customizer page contains everything you need to turn around the design and layout of the template.
For example, you can launch the post carousel ( did you notice the fixed sliding images at the top of the header), e.t.c.
To be sincere, the best way for you to see things for yourself is to buy and launch out your creative instincts!!
- 5# WooCommerce Integrated
Themeco realizes the growing importance of eCommerce, and as such X theme comes fully integrated with four different store layouts using WooCommerce.
- 6# Other Features
Asides the above-listed features, it has the following tons of features:
- Retina ready ( compatible for all videos, pictures)
- HTML5 compatible
- Bbpress and BuddyPress ready
- Inbuilt Megamenus
- 100% Fully responsive on mobile gadgets and smart phones
- Custom backgrounds that can include background slideshows and not just images/patterns
- Google fonts ( you have unlimited creative ideas to chose any Google fonts)
- Single click option to import demo content for any preferred stack
- Extensive documentation and member support ( especially the forum)
- PSD files
- SEO optimization ( highly optimized for Google search engines)
- Clean, semantic and neat coding
X Theme Support ( Ease of use / Excellent Services)
One of the difficult things about the use of WordPress themes, most especially if you are a newbie is the installation and configuration. On a personal note, the use of X themes is an exception. Once you have downloaded the theme, simply upload it and in addition, with the simple click of the mouse, you can actually import the demo contents ( and later edit , delete the contents with your own content) from the demo content page.
The installation is easy to understand to understand and fast to implement.
One of the things that I actually love about the creator ( Themeco) is that they have 24 hours support services. Just by simply checking out the forum and knowledge base, you can achieve anything you desire.
You can check out the following support links:
However, you will be able to access the whole features if you register as a user.
X theme WordPress Examples!!
For example, my blog ( bloggingconsult.org) is now using this theme; the following examples are real live examples of websites and blogs built or created using X.
For Integrity Stack
For Ethos Stacks:
For Renew Stacks:
For icon Stacks:
I will continue to add more as soon as I keep on discovering them!!
The following are my observations after installing and running X theme on this present blog you are reading:
- I noticed an immediate faster loading experience
- Using Google page speed insights and Pingdom tools, the statistics and metrics were amazing
- I also noticed an improved jump / boost in organic rankings
When the guy behind http://incomeschool.com/ said that the use of this theme helped increased his conversions and sales, I believed him because I’m experiencing the same good conversions.
The only thing I observed was that it is extremely difficult for you to want to insert a particularly given code in the header, i.e. before the </body> of your template. Though they have their own inbuilt Google analytics plugin for the analytics code and the use of Yoast SEO plugin will solve the issues of Google webmaster ( now search console) verification; I want them to come up with a plugin that makes it easy for anyone to add codes in the <body> of the template.
FINAL VERDICT : Though the decision is in your hand, but going by my own experience, I’d say you won’t regret buying and using this theme. At the moment, I can say its better than some Genesis themes in terms of speed and SEO advantage.
This is my personal review on the X theme; kindly share your thoughts and experience through the comment section below!!
