Once you have factored in the above points and ready to implement them, then the following stage is the technical stage and this is where real work lies.
Setting up the Cooking Blog
The following items are needed:
- Domain name acquisition
- Internet Hosting for the domain name
- Purchase of WordPress themes/Design Templates
- Installation and Configuration of the blog and themes
A brief explanation on each:
- 1# Domain name acquisition
The first thing you have to think about is the name you are going to give the blog. For example, the cooking blog, pinchofyum.com is named as ‘Pinchofyum’. So, the first task before you is to think of a good, unused and unique name that you can give to your blog because this name is going to be used as your domain name.
To do that, you have to find out if the name you are thinking about is free and available, make use of the search box below from Bluehost and make your research. Once you are able to get your preferred domain name and if it is has not been registered, it is recommended you registered it immediately before others beat you to it.
- 2# Internet Hosting for the domain name
When you are registering for the domain name, you are given a great option to also host the domain name immediately. All of these things is being handled by Bluehost. When you host the domain name, it means you are buying up a server space on the web that will make your domain name active and people will be able to actualy type that name on their phones, browsers and the domain name will turn to a blog and become live.
I recommend you register with Bluehost because with them, you get rest of mind, they are reliable, they install and configure the blog for you and most importantly, you will not pay for the domain name again ( it becomes free for one solid year).
So, go get the hosting immediately (you can select the basic package to get started); read below for more details on how to go about this.
- 3# Purchase of WordPress themes/Design Templates
During the process of domain registration and webhosting, Bluehost gives you leverage option to get WordPress themes (design templates), I will advise you not to get it because you will not be presented with the ideal design that will fit your cooking blog.
WordPress themes or a template is the design outlook that you need for your blog design and beauty. Quality and good ones are not free; what you have to do is to check, search for your preferred design, buy them, download the ZIP and install them.
Examples of leading and top cooking WordPress themes include:
I recently published this comprehensive post where I listed the top recommend cooking and food related WordPress themes, you can check them out.
- 4# Installation and Configuration of the blog and themes
This is a little bit technical ( but of course, it is not rocket science); however, If I start explaining here, it might take another 3000 words, but I have already published the essential guidelines and steps in this comprehensive post.
The tutorial was published for anyone wanting to set up and type of blog and the processes involved is also applicable for your own type of blog. The tutorial contains lts of videos and images.

- 5# Install Google Feedburner to get email leads
Successful bloggers have one secret; it is called ‘Email leads’. It works this way. When visitors land on your blog, for you to retain them and make them come back, it is advisable that you collect their emails .
By doing this, they become your customers and you will be able to send them new posts/updates to their emails. With this development, you can even turn them to a paying customer or sell some stuffs to them as time goes on and as your cooking blog grows.
What you have to install on your blog and place on the right hand sidebar of your blog is the email lead subscription form. For example, on my blog that you are presently reading, I am making use of Googe feedburner ( it is free).
Other applications exist (not free, you will pay for them, examples include Mailchimp, getresponse etc). If you want to get Google feedburner for a start, you can check them out here ( Google feeburner link address)
- 6# Publish Posts/Contents Regularly
Nothing good comes easy!!
This is where you really have to work hard and remain consistent. As earlier advised, you will need a high definition picture and its advisable to get a good camera; however with the use of Photoshop or other photo editing software’s, you can still get the best out of any picture without spending so much money getting expensive camera.
Now, this is the time to post your first content. To do that is easy, just hover to your dashboard ( after login in), locate the post button, click on “ New”, and then start writing unique, breathtaking articles that will make people to love, revisit you and become your readers.
One thing you should not do is to copy other people’s content/articles on your blog. It is called plagiarism and it will destroy your reputation.
Watch the video below for guidance!!
- 7# Promotion/Marketing i.e ..social media application etc
Blogging is fun, it is a hobby, but professional money making blogging is serious business!!
Promotion and marketing is essential to the success of your blog.
- Get A Facebook page account for the domain name
- Get a Twitter Account for the blog
- Go active on Instagram
You are opening the above free accounts in the name of your blog. After this, spend some little fund to promote and get followers ( for twitter) and likes/followers ( followers). Share and distribute your published contents/posts on your blog on them.
You will need to spend money on Facebook to get likes/followers, but for twitter, it is not advisable because it is expensive. You can read my own experience on how I got 61,310 twitter followers in 3 months without advertising on twitter.
