Learn how to start a home based blogging business, be successful and make money. One beautiful aspect of blogging is that it is not defined by geographical boundary; this means that you can be anywhere in the world and manage your blogging business.
I recently published the online earning incomes of top bloggers (making around USD50, 000 – USD160, 000 in a single month, you can read it here).
The untold secret to successful blogging that most probloggers embraced is “that they see blogging as a serious business and they invested their time, money and passion into it!!”
Seven Facts and Factors You Should Know Before Starting
Running a home based blogging business is most beneficial if you are a sit at home mom, mother or even father. Even, retires can use this easy platform to start making money for their selves.
The following are important steps needed and factors you need to know
- Pick A Niche
Don’t be jack of all trades!!
You need to focus on a particular niche and/or product. If you are a fashion enthusiast, you can launch your own fashion blog, write posts about updates, trends, cosmetics, jewelries etc. By doing this, you can start offering online classes, start selling affiliate products from Amazon, eBay etc and you will be surprised at how much you will be making in a month.
- Make Research and Do Due Diligence
Don’t think you are the only one thinking about this plan at this moment. Hundreds of people are currently thinking about what you are about to do. The same thing with the niche you are thinking about, lots of people are already running that particular business ideas. So, the first step is for you to sit down, make research about the niche, how you are going to improve, beat your competitors, spy on them etc.
Then carry out due diligence on your research and set things in motion.
- Be passionate, be committed and think of sustenance
Blogging is a journey and only the strong stays, survive and reap the benefits inherent!
It is important you are passionate about the niche you are going into. If your primary aim is to make money, it may be difficult for you in the first 6 months, but if you set out based on genuine passion for that particular niche, you will discover that the impetus and drive to constantly publish contents/posts will just be there for you.
You will not be perturbed or discouraged even if you are not making reasonable money in the first 6 months or 1 year.
Think of sustenance, so my honest opinion is to register your domain name and hosting for at least 2 years ( it is economically better)
- Have a strong business model
What do I mean by this?
Though I have given a brief explanation on this above, but to further buttress my point, it is advisable to have both short term and long term business model. For a start, you can be the only writer but as time goes on and the blog grows, you will need to get professional writers to help increase your productivity.
Again, you will need to think about the business model of making money; will you be using CPC (Google Adsense etc), affiliate marketing (my preferred choice), direct advertisement or press release. You will need to come up with the appropriate model, but from my own experience, I highly advise that you start with affiliate marketing model.
- Publish Original, non-duplicate Contents
If you want to grow very fast, be respected with your blog, attract quality readers and subscribers, then your number one weapon is to publish high quality contents.
Don’t copy and paste!! Don’t steal other people’s contents!! Research other people’s articles, but publish non-duplicate contents!!
- Invest In Social Media
The honest truth is that ‘without social media e.g Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, twitter; your blog business will have limited growth, stunted growth and it may long time before success smiles on you!!
Having explained the above important points, the next step is on how to set it up.
Setting up A Business Blog
The next step is for you to design, set up, configure and launch your blog; the following are steps to take and how to get it done.
- Getting a domain name
- Getting hosting for the domain name
- Designing of the blog/WordPress Installation
- Configuration/Set up
- Publish your First Post
- 1# Getting a domain name
It is advisable to use the name of your business for your blog name. If for example, you are into embroidery or fashion related business called ‘XYZ”, then it is better if you call the name of your blog ‘XYZ’.
Now, the domain name is the technical name of the blog, ending with what is called domain name extension.
It is the domain name that will be hosted on a web server, searched for on the internet and it serves as the identity of your blog on world wide web.
In essence, if your business name is “XYZ”, then your domain name can be xyz.com, xyz.org, xyz.net, xyz.co.uk, xyz.co.za etc; the first task required of you is to make little research on the availability of the domain name you are thinking of using and then registering it.
You can use the form below (Courtesy Bluehost) to check and verify the availability and authenticity of the name.
- 2# Getting hosting for the domain name
As earlier mentioned, even though you have registered the domain name of your business blog, that does not mean it is available on the world wide web. What will it make it available on the net is for you to host the domain name on a web server.
So, for your fashion business blog or merchandize blog, you will need to buy a web server space to host the domain name.
I recommend Bluehost webhosting Service Company: they are dependable, secured, and affordable and they will give you free domain name registration if you decide to host with them (saving you about USD for a whole year).
Just click on the “get started” link in the image below that will take you to the company for registration.
- 3# Designing of the blog/WordPress Installation
Your blog is totally blank and void after the registration of both the domain name and hosting.
The next step to carry out is the designing of the entire blog; its layout and structural layout. Doing this is not difficult; the answer is in the use of WordPress.
You will need to buy what is called a premium WordPress template that will fit into your type of blog business. Examples are shown below:
