Have you ever thought of making and launching a beauty blog? I can tell you that leveraging on the power of the internet to share your skills by starting and opening a blogging site in this niche may be one of your best decisions.
In this guideline today, I am going over the step by step processes you need to do and implement to achieve a successful beauty and skin care website.
What Is A Beauty Blog
A beauty blog is a unique blogging niche that is related to everything that has to do with being beautify. To qualify running this type of niche means that you should be a lover of the niche and also have deep knowledge about it.
Blogging is much more of a personal touch, where visitors to the blog sees you as an authority for all their quests, problems and solutions!!
I remembered when I launched a beauty blog for my wife 2 years ago; fast forward to this present time, that single step has both skyrocketed her earnings, given her both local and international exposure and at the same time given her enough time to cater for the family!!
Before setting and launching out, the following are some misconceptions and notable questions on the lips of most intending people:
- Blogging is hard
It’s a fallacy, but from my own experience, if you really desire to be successful, you need to commit more time in writing posts and promoting it. The bottom line is that running a successful blog is hard work for the lazy folks!!
- Is it expensive
It is not expensive. For as low as USD 155 per year, you can get started. This covers the general cost of getting your domain name, hosting the domain name and getting a professional website/blog design template. More info on this below.
- How will I get stories/posts and articles
One thing should be made clear; writing a beauty and/or skin care related posts should be something that is drawn from your own inspiration, pool of knowledge and creativity. Do’t stress yourself about all the hoolabaloo and SEO terms out there. Just get settled and start writing all what you know about being beautiful and related issues.
Though, the beauty blog has many branches and you might just focus on either:
- Writing on products reviews e.t.c.
- Publishing information related articles e.t.c.
- Publishing tutorial son beauty, fashion and skin care related posts ( you can even create a memebership area where you charge some fees before people can read some important tutorials).
- How will I make money and how?
Making money on a blog is very much possible, my wife makes good money in four figures every month and so can you. All what you need to do is to join affiliate merchants, promote your products, promote affiliate merchants products ( e.g Amazone e.t.c); more on that below.
Please, you should know and understand that being successful entails lots of hard-work from your side. You need to be committed, dedicated and different from other beauty bloggers.
From experience, it is important you have the desire and passion for this project. Don’t just start because your friend or neighbor is making money from his/her blog. In-fact, only open and start a skin care blog if you genuinely love this beauty niche you are going into and you wish to share your skills, knowledge with the world in general.
The reason is because your passion will bring about the money!!!
This is because to become an authority and be successful, your readers should have a feeling that they are reading an article from someone that really knows what he or she is talking about.
Lastly, you should be able to express your tutorials, guidelines e.t.c with excellent blog posts. The blog posts should be unique, highly educative and helpful with detailed information.
Using your own pictures/videos is an added advantage ( Don’t just use pictures form the internet, you need to be creative and use your own pictures and images).
“If the purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable”. Different blogs exist on the web portal with 80% sure purpose and 20% unsure purpose. Stop, think and honestly ask yourself the following questions
- Is it just a blog where you share and posts about your skills, updates, latest trends, information, news e.t.c. and probably make money using Affiliate sales, PPC or Google Adsense advertisements etc.
Another vital point is if you have a business or work in a cosmetic/skin care, fashion and/or beauty modelling agency/company, having a blog is a MUST because with the blog, you can keep visitors, customers informed of latest updates happening in your company or organization
Having a blog with consistent posts on a website makes it very attractive to search engines. E.g if you have an online store or eCommerce website selling beauty accessories or female items, your blog keeps the website active in Google’s purview ( and you will discover that the site will rank high on Google SERP).
- Is your blog or site going to be service oriented site where you act as a consultant offering:
- Specialized services for wedding receptions, make up artists e.t.c.
- Educative Consulting work on that niche ( or running an online course or a membership site)
Once you are clear on your core mission, then proceed to step 2
There are three options to create your site and get started:
- Making use of website/blog designers
Not advisable for a starter because it is expensive and you will be overwhelmed with technical requests.
- Making use of Self-Hosted WordPress Platforms
This is the best option. I’m referring to the wordpress.org platform. This model is what 100% of successful bloggers are using because you are in control, you can easily accept advertisement and make money, and you are going to actually use this to build and run your blog.
Making use of free hosted platforms: These includes the use of WordPress.com platforms ( the free version of WordPress), blogger, tumblr e.t.c: This third model is not advisable because you are not in control and you cannot make money directly from advertisement/Google Adsense.
Thirdly, the free providers can close your account anytime. And lastly, you can never become a brand with this model. Please Run away!!
I will be explaining the second model and this is what I’m using on my own blog and other successful blogs you see around.
The following are items/factors you need to get or have when you are about starting, creating or launching your beauty blog or website.
- Get a high resolution camera and a Photoshop software on your laptop or PC
- Give Your Blog A Name And Purchase A Domain Name
- Get And Use A Good Web Host
- Get And Install WordPress ( Themes/Templates)
- Install Recommended WordPress Plugins
- Set Up Analytical Tools on Google
- Create And publish creative and/or information beauty posts
- Invest In instagram, Facebook And Twitter
A little explanation on each points below:
- 1# Get a high resolution camera and a Photoshop software on your laptop or PC
The use of pictures and images have been proven to convert much more better than plain written text. As a beauty blogger with the aim to be successful, you need to get a high resolution camera that you can use to take pictures of your handwork ( hair, make up, jewelries e.t.c.) and then post them on your blog.
People loves virtual and publishing your own images goes a long way to retain readership and give you a sense of authority.
- 2# Give your blog a name and buy domain name
Pick a pen and start writing out names you want to call your blog or site. Example includes LinkedIn, Google, Facebook, pinchofyum, yummy e.t.c.
This same name is what you are going to use as a domain name: example of domain names are LinkedIn.com, Google.com, Facebook.com, pinchofyum.com, yummy.com e.t.c
- It should be short and precise
- It should be easy to remember and pronounce
- It must be unique and should be able to serve as a brand
- I am sure that right now, lots of potential names will be crossing your mind. Don’t worry, you can check them out on Bluehost to see if they are available and if they are , I recommend you get it immediately ( because others are actually on the net doing what you are about to do also!!)
CHECK IF AVAILABLE ON BLUEHOST NOW!!
Cost: On Bluehost, you get it free; it costs more than USD10 per year in other places
- 3# Get And Use A Good WebHost
Now, it is getting interesting. The second step is to get your domain name active and accessible on the internet. To do this means that the domain needs to be hosted on the world wide web. Every website or blog is hosted by one web host company or the other, so the task is to get a good web hosting company that you can entrust your files, contents, images, videos to their care.
To host your blog means you are buying a portion of what is called a server on this company’s own server.
Characteristics of a good web hosting company:
- They should be reliable ( this means your site or blog is always online and not down)
They should be dependable
They should have a robust support solutions
They should cater to a small business owner and ready to listen to your needs
With all these factors, the only known web hosting company I can recommend is Bluehost. Fortunately, they are the same company earlier mentioned above on domain check up and registration.
For a beginner, the shared hosting solution is better and highly recommended. As your blog grows, you have the advantage and ease to scale up your hosting package to accommodate more online traffic.
Bluehost has all the above mentioned advantages, plus they have 24/7 support system, tight security and cheap with as low as 3.45USD per month. 85% of bloggers are on their hosting infrastructure.
Peradventure, you are not pleased with their service, they have a robust refund policy and your money will be returned back to you.
To get the best out of Bluehost, follow the below guidelines and image:
- Chose the Starter Plan
The starter plan is recommended for a newbie and also because it is very affordable.
- Chose longer Term and Domain Privacy
When you chose longer term, you are well positioned to get huge discounts and many benefits from this web host ( including but not limited to the free domain name cost). In addition, I also recommend that you check the domain privacy section.
- 4# Get And Install WordPress
You do not have to disturb yourself at this stage because Bluehost will take it up. However, for more understanding, see Bluehost guide on how to install WordPress. However, the following are the same guidelines you will need as explained above.
Since you have signed up for the hosting, this means you are automatically on the cPanel and if not, you can access your Cpanel easily.
Login with your username and password ( your username is your newly registered domain name); On the Cpanel, locate the website section and click on ‘Install WordPress”
This message comes up if the account opening is successful, just close this box and proceed to the cpanel:
After this, the WordPress installation will begin at the background and should finish in the next 1-2 mins.
Follow the screen instructions. Click on ‘Advanced options’; input the name of your blog and title ( this can be changed at a later stage).
The system will give you suggestion on your WordPress Dashboard Admin Username and password ( please note and write it down). After this, click on the install button.
After this , a message will appear showing your installation is complete. Just click on ‘view credentials’ ( Please see the image below).
Please write down the URL, Admin URL, Username and Password ( though this is temporal) and save them.
At this stage, you are done with the installation and the next step is to login to the WordPress Dashboard and start setting up the blog, including the design, posts e.t.c.
To login, click on the Admin URL ( and the page below will show up)
If everything is perfect, you will get a congratulatory message as shown below:
Just login with your username and password to access the dashboard. On successful login, you will see something like this;
At this point, follow the next step to get everything sorted:
- 5# You Need To Install WordPress Themes
If the installation is complete and you are able to login, this is the WordPres dashboard that you will see!!
The use of WordPress themes is the design and feel of how you want your blog to look like. Though, there are free WordPress themes ( also called website or blog templates), I will not recommend them because of SEO ( Search engine optimization) and security problems. If you are serious about blogging, then go for the premium ones.
Please note that after installing WordPress, both Bluehost and WordPress will give you some recommended themes, just ignore them and continue with this tutorial!!
4 Reasons Why Premium Themes Are Recommended
- Premium themes cost money ( typically from 25-99USD); however, they have the following features:
- They are mobile responsive ( meaning they are smartphone ready and friendy). They can be viewed easily on mobile gadgets
- They are built with speed and easy to use features
- They have excellent SEO capabilities; meaning they are optimized to give you great search engine rankings with ease.
- They are built with solid security
- And because they are premium, they are backed up with sound and solid support

Go to settings and activate ‘Contact”. Go back to the published contact page and insert the code given to you from Jetpack.

Now, to the most important question, “‘how to make your blog successful”?
Making The Beauty Blog Successful
This is the most difficult aspect and this is where lots of bloggers begin to fail. The internet is a vast place and nobody knows your new blog. So, the first step you have to make is to:
- Start publishing some new, super rich articles
- Start investing in Facebook and twitter
Invest in Facebook
Facebook is an important and crucial aspect of your campaign. Go to Facebook and open a business page using your domain name. For example, my blog is bloggingconsult.org and the domain is bloggingconsult. So, I went to Facebook and opened a page called facebook.com/bloggingconsult
Once you do this, create a good cover photo, share one or two posts on the page and then invest 5USD to get followers ( called likes).
I recommend you spend at least 100USD to get around 10,000 likes ( it may not work that way, but try as much as possible to have at least 50,000 likes, and then try and get engaged with them by responding to their comments, likes e.t.c.)
Check and Join Relevant Groups on Facebook
Aside using your money to place adverts to get likes ( followers), another vital area important to growing your new blog is to join relevant groups.
Go to Facebook search and click on group, from here search for relevant groups peculiar to your niche. E.g. if your blog is about fashion, then search for fashion related groups on Facebook and join them.
Be Active on Twitter
Go to twitter.com, open a free account using the name of your domain. Use the same cover photo on your FB also on twitter. Start sharing your posts, quotes and updates to your followers.
To gain more followers, I recommend the use of Manageflitter ( I use this App to get daily 200-450 targeted twitter followers).
Do the same on Google+, Pinterest and Linkedin
Go to Google+, Pinterest and Linkedin, join relevant groups ( communities or circles, in the case of Google+) and start getting involved in discussions, opinions e.t.c.
The reason why you need all these social media platforms ( Facebook, twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Linkedin ONLY) is because you need active audience that is ready to listen to what you are saying or publishing.
Don’t just sit down and rely on Google search to start sending you traffic!!
Embrace Guest Post
This particular strategy of promoting your new blog is hard and difficult, but if you are serious about the success of your new site, then you need to combine guest posting with the above mentioned strategy on social media promotion.
What is guest post?
Guest post is a way of writing quality content/article on other people’s blog/website with the aim of getting backlinks to your own blog.
I must say that all successful blogs I have seen and known all practised guest posting techniques.
So, sit down, do a little research about some hot blogs, approach the publisher/owner and request to send in a good guest posts.
One rule of successful guest posting is: Make sure you write better content that will definitely make the publisher accept your proposal!!
This is a notable and paramount question on the minds of people. From personal experience, I can tell you that if your blog is popular and getting traffic, then you are in for a wonderful surprise in terms of making good money.
There are different methods of making money, which includes but not limited to:
- Accepting Press Release from companies
- Embracing the model of Buzzfeed, which is accepting articles from companies. business and publishing them on your blog. For example, you can write a quality article about company A’s product and publish them on your site. This model gives you good money rather than the use of Google Adsense or other PPC methods.
- The use of Google Adsense or PPC means
- Through Affiliate marketing: Promoting beauty and fashion products on Amazon, eBay e.t.c.
For a thorough understanding on ways to make money, I recommend you read out these massive list on 60 ways to make money from your blog.
